QueensWay Daffodil Project 2015

We are proud to be a participant of the Daffodil Project 2015 coordinated by New Yorkers for Parks. The Daffodil Project originally began as a living memorial to September 11th and the tradition continues. We will plant daffodil bulbs this weekend and look forward to watching them bloom in the Spring 2016.

QueensWay Bike Tour 2015

Join Friends of The QueensWay, 5BBC (5 Borough Bicycle Club), and TA (Transportation Alternatives) Queens Committee members in a ride from Rego Park to Ozone Park to explore the future route of the QueensWay. We will make several stops, and brief hikes onto the rail line before officially ending outside the Aqueduct Race Track and Casino in South Ozone Park. Riders wishing to take the A train back to Manhattan can continue to Aqueduct Station. Peter Beadle & other Friends of the QueensWay will discuss the history of the abandoned rail line and give updates on progress.

9:30 AM Grand Army Plaza, Prospect Park, Brooklyn (Andrea C);

9:30 AM Dutch Kills Green, Queens Plaza N @ Jackson Avenue (just over the 59th Street Bridge) (Steve L);

11:00AM @ Shalimar Diner, Austin St & 63 Dr, Queens.
ALL RIDERS DEPART SHALIMAR DINER AT 11:15 AM.  (25 leisurely miles if starting in Manhattan.)

Summer 2015 Walking Tours

Our Spring 2015 walking tour filled up quick, so we are adding 2 new Summer walking tours. This walking tour of the QueensWay is primarily a tour on city streets adjoining the QueensWay with a brief walk on the rail bed section in Forest Park (please wear long pants, and hiking or walking shoes). Get a chance to see the “before” condition and learn about the history of the site & project from our tour leaders. 25 spots available PER TOUR

One of our own Steering Committee members will be there proudly representing as a Woodhaven native along with fellow volunteers. We are looking forward to meeting new people and introducing our project. And we also look forward to seeing familiar faces.
