What is a Jane’s Walk?
Jane’s Walks are free, locally organized walking tours, in which people get together to explore, talk about and celebrate their neighborhoods. Where more traditional tours are a bit like walking lectures, a Jane’s Walk is more of a walking conversation. Leaders share their knowledge, but also encourage discussion and participation among the walkers.
Join Friends of the QueensWay Steering Committee members, Ruben Ramales, Assoc. AIA, as he leads our 3rd Annual Jane’s Walk of the QueensWay.

Join us, as our project partner The Trust for Public Land and Friends of the QueensWay take the lead in hosting a Forest Park BioBlitz project this year as part of the annual 2018 City Nature Challenge.
On this Saturday morning, we will gather community members, students, citizen scientists, park enthusiasts, stewards and more to join us as we document plants and wildlife via photographs that will be uploaded to iNaturalist, an app that has logged 8 million verifiable observations of over 146K speciies over the last 10 years shared by community members across the world. We have the opportunity to contribute such observations in Forest Park that may be used for research purposes.
*Location will be updated and shared after signing up.

The Municipal Arts Society hosts this tour with guides from The Trust for Public Land and Friends of the QueensWay for a 2.5 mile walk alongside the northern section of this proposed “cultural greenway” that will transform a long abandoned rail line running from Rego Park south to Ozone Park.
Tickets available HERE
Meetup location will be provided upon purchasing ticket from MAS website. The listed website is only showing the nearest subway stop.
If built, the QueensWay could highlight the many cultures of Queens (one of the most diverse urban areas in America) and provide pedestrian and bike linkages.
This tour will start in historic Forest Hills Gardens, and include a walk on the rail bed, through a ravine in Forest Park (wear long pants, and hiking or walking shoes), but much of it will be on city streets adjoining the QueensWay.
Please be advised the tour begins in Forest Hills but ends in Forest Park so plan accordingly.

We are bringing back our Daffodil Planting event, this time in Ozone Park, at Officer Nicholas Demutiis Park.

We will be cleaning up the site where we will plant daffodil bulbs. Please sign up to volunteer so that we can plan accordingly for tools and materials. Kids are encouraged, so that they may plant their own daffodil bulb.

After hosting cleanups and plantings off the tracks, we are back this year with a Cleanup on the Tracks. As we all know, they continue to be a home for litter and much worse.
Join us, Friends of the QueensWay and Earth Citizens Club, and other local community members as we spend a couple of hours cleaning up a section of the tracks within Forest Park.
Tools and anything else we will need to cleanup the site will be generously provided by Parks Department – Forest Park staff (thanks Nicole for coordinating!)
